Current Services
Thirty
children reside at Brantwood and each participates in at
least one of the following programs:
Basic Residential Treatment Program
Brantwood provides 8 basic residential slots to children
between the ages of 10 through 18. Basic residential
treatment is designed for children whose needs cannot be
met in their own home, traditional foster home, therapeutic
foster care home or children who have reached their
treatment goals in a more restrictive setting. Children
eligible for this level program may be abused, neglected or
exploited and may exhibit behavioral and or emotional
problems which range from acting out to withdrawal.
Children in this level are basically in good health,
although some may require medical attention for minor
health conditions. At this level children typically have
behavior which is under control and does not require
constant adult supervision. Have peer relations that are
generally positive. Are generally compliant with staff and
respond favorably to nurturing, structured programs. Do not
pose a safety risk to the community or other children in
the facility.
Moderate
Level Residential Treatment Program
Brantwood provides 8 Moderate Level Residential Treatment
beds to children between the ages of 10 through 18.
Moderate level residential treatment is designed for
children whose needs cannot be met in their own home,
traditional foster home, therapeutic foster care home,
basic residential care or children who have reached their
treatment goals in a more restrictive setting and are ready
to be “stepped down”. Children eligible for
this level of care must have a DSM-IV diagnosed mental
illness or be identified by a mental health professional as
having at least moderate emotional and/or behavioral
problems and be in need of treatment. Children may also
have substance abuse needs or have had substance abuse
needs and have successfully completed an Alcohol and Drug
Treatment Program. At this level children typically need
clinical treatment to be able to function in school, home
or in the community because of multiple problems. Have not
responded successfully to less restrictive treatment and or
have been denied admission or discharged from various
placements because of emotional and behavioral disruption.
Have behavior that is not well controlled without constant
adult supervision or use of psychotropic medication; basic
structure and nurturance are not sufficient.
Transitional
Living Program
Brantwood provides 8 Transitional Living beds to youth
between the ages of 17 and 19. It is housed on campus in
the Nolan Cottage at the back of the property. The purpose
of this program is to provide foster teens with the tools,
skills, knowledge and experience they will need to secure
and maintain employment and housing; assume responsibility
for their health and nutrition; contribute to their
community; and form rewarding relationships beyond the
foster care system.
Independent
Living Program
Brantwood provides 6 Independent Living slots to older
foster youth, ages 19 through 20 who are expected to
“age out of care” either on or before their
21st birthday. Typically these are youth who have been in
foster care for several years with a history of multiple
placements, youth who are not expected to return to their
families, teen mothers, and youth who do not readily fit
into a group living situation. Usually these participants
live in an apartment or college dorm and receive some
financial support, independent living instructions,
transportation and supervision in preparation for
“aging out” of the foster care system.
Brantwood
On-Site Educational Program (BOSEP)
Brantwood provides 20 slots for 5th through 9th grade
students in its on-site school. BOSEP is staffed by an
Administrative Teacher, Teacher and Teacher’s Aide.
The school is housed on campus in the Kiwanis Club of
Montgomery Education Center building. It serves Brantwood
residents and other children in the foster care system as
space is available.
